KATS Saltwater Event #1 Recap
The 2021 KATS Saltwater team is gearing up for the second tournament this year, hosted in beautiful Rockport Texas on October 2nd 2021. If you missed the first event, you don’t want to miss this one.
To recap San Luis Pass, we witnessed some of the most talented kayak anglers in Texas competing head-to-head. These anglers battled it out in some of the worst weather conditions of the year; it was tough, it was challenging, and for more than just bragging rights. With over 100 registered anglers, and some of the best company sponsors in the industry; we were able to provide a combined payout of over $22,000 in checks, prizes, and kayaks for those kayakers brave enough to compete. They did not disappoint.
Competitors like Evan Tu, and Jonathan Meadows who swept 1st place and biggest redfish, took home a whopping $5,525.00 check to the bank. Put that on a cracker, dude! Close on their heels with a 1.18 lb difference, Nick Martin and Chuck Way walked away with $2,150.00, for a second-place podium finish. And, to wrap up the top three, who can forget team Donkey Ropers. Ol Donkey Ropers consisting of Reggie Chapa and Marco Garza; tooth and nail competitors. They managed to rope away with $1,300.00 big ones; that’s one heck of a sunset to ride away in.
Let’s not forget we paid out five places. So Sean Farmer, Aaron Stahl, Cary Beason and Nicholas Beason, also paddled to victory and left home with a little extra jingle in their pockets. Can these champions retain their status as Kings of the KATS Saltwater world in Rockport? You’ll have to be there to find out.
Did I mention we gave away kayaks?
Team DSKA, a.k.a, Martin Sosa and Oscar Flores of the Facebook group Dirty South Kayak Anglers fished hard and took home a brand new Bonafide SS127; there’s nothing dirty about that. Aside from that, they had to split it. Only one boat fella’s……. oh, that’s dirty; but they were all smiles. Additionally, every angler had an opportunity to win a NuCanoe Flint that was given away as a raffle with proceeds going to CCA Austin Chapter.
Don’t take my word from it, but San Luis Pass was a heck of a good time! Luke Prentiss with Kayak Beast Fishing Strength & Fitness, along with his fishing partner John Stapleton we’re rewarded with a personal guided trip by Denny Greif of Smoking Reds Kayak Fishing. There was food, fun, music, adult beverages and CCA hats for days!
With our Rockport event on the horizon, we’re definitely looking forward to seeing familiar anglers and many new competitors. I have a feeling the prizes are going to be bigger, the raffle will be falling off the table, and who knows how many kayaks will be up for grabs. Get registered today by visiting www.ackkats.com and I hope to see you there.
